What Does the “MattDoesFitness” Workout Routine Look Like?

In the old days of Jack LaLanne and Jane Fonda, people would watch exercise shows or pop in an aerobics videotape (ask your grandma, kids) to watch a fitness instructor on their screens tell them how to get in shape. Today, people prefer YouTube and streaming services or smart phone apps to television or recorded media. One former gym coach has got on the ball and took his fitness program to YouTube where the views keep coming and they don’t stop! His name is Matt Morsia and his YouTube channel is MattDoesFitness.

A Former Olympic Hopeful to YouTube Star

A graduate of Kent University, Matt in 2011 was ranked as one of the top three triple jumpers in the UK. He had plans to compete in the London Olympics, but a stress fracture to the spine put paid to those dreams. At the urging of his wife, Sarah, Matt replaced his drive for jumping with a drive of weight lifting. The woman behind the man also urged him to put his workouts on YouTube. The competitive Matt found he liked not only shooting videos for his channel, but he was able to win the silver for powerlifting in the European Championships in 2016.

With powerlifting comes a need for more calories. Matt noticed that “mukbang” style videos were getting a lot of views and got on that bandwagon. Matt shot a video of himself consuming 25,000 calories in 24 hours. This netted him 5.8 million views. Matt was soon making so much off YouTube he no longer needed to keep his gym teacher job. What was once a hobby was now Matt’s full time job, making him the most popular vlogger in the UK. He describes it as “the best decision I ever made,”

What to Expect from a MattDoesFitness Workout

Matt loves a challenge, so many of his workouts mirror those of famous athletes and bodybuilders. His preferred workout routine was inspired by that of Conor McGregor, the Irish professional mixed martial artist. Monday is ab day, so be prepared for crunches and planks. Tuesday is for bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups and squats. Wednesday is leg day so get ready to work those calves, quads, hammies and glutes. Thursday is the ab challenge. See if you can do it! Friday is time for cardio for endurance and weight loss. The weekend is for resting and recovery, but Matt still may do something active like go hiking with his family.

How to Eat Like Matt

Diet plans aren’t something Matt likes to discuss. He struggled with an eating disorder in 2012, but has since recovered and improved his relationship was food. He mostly eats clean but sometimes does a “cheat meal” involving pizza, McDonald’s or a little cake for dessert. The MattDoesFitness diet plan is actually five meals consisting mostly of fruit, vegetables and lean protein. Much of the protein comes from peanut butter, eggs, fish and chicken. Matt also takes supplement to help him build strength as well as maintain focus so that he can be energized both physically and mentally for his workouts. Whey protein and omega 3’s are among his favorite dietary supplements.

Does He Have an App? You Bet He Has an App!

Matt has taken a step up from popular YouTube channel and now has a fitness app. The Morisa App is unique in that not only does it provide the user with a customized training program and personal meal plan, but it instructs the user on how to make progress and keep it up. Not only will the user be guided through the process of losing fat and/or building muscle but the app teaches them how. The training programs of the Morsia App are structured to the individual. The meal plans are varied and the results are achievable.

Here’s how the app works. You select your guide from the “Workouts” tab and choose a day to get started on your first exercise. Tap the “play” icon and you’ll see a demonstration of each exercise. If you scroll down, you’ll see just how many reps and sets you’ll have to do. The app lets you record your progress as you do the reps. This way, you can track and save your progress. Once you finish all your sets for a specific exercise, tap the right arrow and go onto the next exercise. Once you’re done, you can even share your progress online.

What about the Meal Plan?

As for the meal plan, that starts with entering your personal information including activity level, personal goals and food preferences. This information aids in calculating your personal calorie target. There is a vegan option and the meal plan (recommended for people over age 16) can be tailored to suit allergies and other dietary requirements such as gluten-free. It can be adjusted for pregnant and breastfeeding women. (If you are pregnant, ask your doctor which exercises are safest.) The “Meals” tab will help you customize and view your meal plan. The Morsia App has a library full of recipes to choose from. The recipes come with a breakdown of calories and nutrients to help you make good choices.

The Merch. Of Course There’s Merch

Matt sells merch with his logo on it, mostly in the form of belts, wraps, bands and sleeves you can wear while working out. He also sells some headphones with his logo if you like a little music with your workout. The prices on his website are in British pounds, so have a conversion chart ready on another tab when you order.

Want some money to buy that merch? And maybe a chance at a one-on-one training session with Matt besides? Take the Morsia challenge! Send your name, email and before and after images with proof of date, and you could stand to win 5,000 Pounds Sterling in cash (The equivalent of $5550.77 as of this writing) and a personal training session with Matt at the Morsia gym.

What’s Next for Matt Morsia?

Coming soon to the Morsia App is something known only as “Project Morsia“. The details of this project are being kept under wraps for now, but the words “Do more” feel like a hint at what’s to come as does the countdown on the website advertising the coming addition to the app. This author predicts the possibility of a stopwatch feature and a challenge to do reps within the countdown.

As for Matt’s personal life, he is having a home custom-built for himself, his wife and two young children. His home building journey is being documented on his Instagram. Matt is planning a bigger courtyard for family barbecues, a practical kitchen and cozy rooms for the kids. Of course, he will have a home gym!

Conclusion

Matt Morsia has experienced quite a roller coaster ride in his life from Olympic hopeful to gym coach to YouTube star. Check out his MattDoesFitness channel, work out along with him and maybe see if the Morsia App is right for you. If nothing else, you’ll get a workout plan that shows results and a diet plan that doesn’t leave you feeling deprived. Matt Morsia can do it, and he can show you how to do it too!
